I Scream for Ice Cream: Take 2

Here it goes, here it goes, here it goes again! Another post about dairy-free ice cream. I’ll be talking about the same brands, Ben & Jerry’s and So Delicious, but different flavors. Basically everything is the same but if you want to recap you can check out I Scream for Ice Cream (the one that started it all).

Why Did I Buy?

I closed my last post saying that I was going to make my own dairy-free ice cream and I will. I’m saving my experimentation for May. I’ve been working on some projects and haven’t had the time to dedicate to ice cream makin’. But ooo dang, ya’ll better watch out in May!

We ended up buying two more pints because I was craving something sweet and we didn’t have anything in the house. I enjoyed the flavors we got last time (P.B. & Cookies and Cookie Dough) but wanted to try something else. So I did. This time we bought Coffee Caramel Fudge (B&J) and Dark Chocolate Truffle (SD).

Story Time

After we bought the pints I immediately forgot about them for a few days until after dinner I made the comment, “I need some dessert. What do we have?” My husband replied, “We never opened that ice cream we bought.” He opened them and scooped a bit of both in a bowl for me. At this time I had forgotten what flavors were from what brand so when my husband so very kindly presented me with the bowl o’ flavors I didn’t know which was which.

Observations

  • They looked the same. Which I couldn’t say in my last post because the texture was obviously different.
  • They texture was the same. The textures were spot on. I couldn’t tell which flavor was made by which brand. Cashew milk > coconut milk.
  • Dark Chocolate Truffle was a rich and creamy chocolate heaven. The definite “winner” between the two.
  • Coffee Caramel Fudge‘s flavors didn’t blend as well as we had hoped. We were hoping it could be a replacement for our favorite Turkey Hill flavor called Double Dunker which has coffee, cookie dough, and Oreos but it fell short. The coffee was an odd after taste instead of an equal player in flavors.

What’s the Point?

I was so blown away by the difference the cashew milk made that I wanted to share. If you’re looking for a dairy-free option and don’t want the Ben & Jerry’s flavors, know that the cashew milk options from So Delicious are just as creamy as regular ice cream.

What’s Next?

Finishing these pints, duh.

  1. I can’t wait to try these next time I’m in the US! No luck in Switzerland or the UK, at least not in Uckfield yet 🙂

  2. I personally eat both brands. Though I have tried the Ben&Jerry’s Coffee Caramel Fudge ice cream, I cannot say the same for the So Delicious Dark Chocolate Truffle (I MUST TRY!) Now that I am dairy free, I am IN LOVE with cashew milk. So I have high hopes….we’ll see 🙂

    Thanks for sharing.
